Cityscapes
The large-size cinema posters on street corners or at cinema entrances were a familiar sight to anyone travelling to India up until the 1990ies. Today, billboard prints with photographic
motifs dominate the cityscapes.
Movie-posters, painted in oil on canvas or hoardings, were created by talented artists working in small studios in the Hindi movie capital Bombay, the centre of the world's largest
film industry. Let's go backstage.
Hans Demarmels collected a few of the giant originals in order to preserve this art form. He also commissioned individual posters for fans and invited Balkrishna Vaydia and
his Artists to europe to participate in Exhibitions.
In March 2005, Hans Demarmels exhibited his Poster Collection at Maag-Halle in Zürich. Watch the report of Swiss Television SRF which was featured in the News Program
